"I owe you a dance and not an explanation."
Feather Leather is an on-going project initiated in New York in 2008 as an exchange with dancer Yurie Umamoto. This project developed as a large ping-pong game where each of the participants would use any format (sound, image, text, food...) to answer the "ping" giving a "pong". Soon the network of exchanges expanded to other participants, disciplines and geographies, creating and multiplying stimuli that became visible and physical in a series of residencies (La Caldera and tragantDansa) and performances I Am The Orphan De La Valley in Harlem, New York in December 2008 and Cigronete i Macarronito built in collaboration with musician Ramón Rodríguez (The New Raemon) and presented at tragantDansa in October 2009. The cycle of Belier is another moment of this project. Feather Leather wants to include the viewer in a participatory network of creative intentions, a multiple game, where the process has no end but finality. All results of this communication serve as a creative method to choreography aiming to explore the borders of contemporary dance. Feather Leather is also a series of videos, recorded in the intimacy of the studio at La Caldera and have continued their own lives as "pings" and shown in different galleries including Gorputza Call Process in San Sebastian and Dispositiu Mòbil:07 in Barcelona (2010).
Belier is a choreographic map of beings, each with their own motions and spirits, a succession of characters that invoke personal geographies and a reaction to the accumulation of emotions received through Feather Leather. It was presented at the cycle Mov i Ment #1 of La Caldera included in Barcelona's Grec Festival in July 2010.
